Born in 1978 in Blida, Algeria, Mohamed Bourouissa works across various media, including photography, video, installation, and theatre. His two-decade practice examines the structures of power, control, and exclusion within contemporary societies. Based on immersion, investigation, and observation, his practice combines documentary with conceptual strategies, promoting artistic freedom, subverting hierarchical structures, and cultivating a deeply relational aesthetic. His work has been exhibited in the Palais de Tokyo, the Louis Vuitton Foundation, the Centre Pompidou, the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, and the Studio Museum in Harlem. He has also made a significant impact at major international biennials, including Sharjah and Venice. As the winner of the Prix Marcel Duchamp, Mohamed Bourouissa stands as a pivotal figure in contemporary art, recognized both in France and on the international stage.
