Born in 1964 in Oran, Algeria, Mustapha Sedjal is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans video, installation, painting, and drawing. He examines memory, displacement, and how images shape our perception of reality, employing techniques such as imprinting, cutting, and montage to explore the relationship between still and moving images. His work has been presented at prestigious venues, including the Musée de l’Hospice Saint-Roch in Issoudun, Dar Abdellatif in Algiers, Espace Elektra/Fondation EDF, and the Drawing Now Art Fair in Paris. He has also made notable appearances at the World-Wide Video Festival in The Hague, the Impakt Festival in the Netherlands, Instants Vidéo in Marseille, and Arte Vidéo Night in Paris. Sedjal received the Prix de la Ville de Locarno (Switzerland) and the 13th Estavar–Llivia Video Festival Prize (France) for his video, Nejma, L’Éternel Retour.
