Souhila Belbahar, born on February 17, 1934, in Blida and passed away in 2023, was a self-taught painter. Guided by her father, an art enthusiast, she first trained by reading and copying the great masters, such as Renoir. She made a name for herself with a unique style and became one of the pioneers of contemporary Algerian art. In 1962, she created “Les Femmes Pétales,” her signature pictorial style. A member of the National Union of Plastic Arts, she exhibited both in Algeria and internationally. Her works are part of the collections of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Algiers and the Dinet Museum. Two retrospectives were dedicated to her, in 1984 and 2001. Honored in 2009, she also created posters, stamps, and cards for UNFA and UNICEF.
