About

Born in 1977 in Moscow, Russia, Zoulikha Bouabdellah stands out as a leading contemporary feminist artist from the Maghreb, fundamentally influencing the artistic dialogue in the region. Her diverse work encompasses installation, sculpture, video, photography, and works on paper, boldly challenging dominant iconographies and discourses surrounding conflict, sexuality, and women’s status. Applying a deconstructivist approach, she explores the intersections of culture and creation, production and industrialization, and creolization and bodily representation, redefining the parameters of contemporary aesthetics. Her powerful works are included in prestigious public and private collections and have been showcased in acclaimed international institutions such as the Brooklyn Museum, LACMA, Mathaf, the Menil Collection, and MUMOK. Notably, her video Dansons, featured in the Africa Remix exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, underscores the universal impact of her practice.
