About

I was born and raised in the Sahrawi refugee camps. I studied biology before returning to the camps, where I began to learn photography. I use my photography to document life in the refugee camps, but I aim to show a different perspective of refugees’ lives. I don’t like how refugees are often portrayed elsewhere, as sad, miserable, and hungry. I want to show something different. I photograph people in their everyday situations. In those moments, they smile, laugh, and have hope. These photographs capture a moment when a sandstorm hit our camp. In such times, the family gathers at our grandmother’s tent.
