About

Born in June 1969 in Tunis, Héla Ammar is a visual artist whose photographs and installations address issues of memory, identity, and marginality. She is the author of Corridors and co-author of Le Syndrome de Siliana, having developed a body of work focused on detention conditions in Tunisia. Her works are found in the permanent collections of the British Museum (London), the Institut du Monde Arabe (Paris), the Slaoui Foundation Museum (Casablanca), and the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm (Sweden). Héla Ammar is a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. She has participated in numerous exhibitions, biennales, and international fairs, including Reflections at the British Museum (London, 2021), Refugee Week at the Victoria and Albert Museum (London, 2019), and the Dak’Art Biennale (Senegal, 2014, 2016).
