Born in Mansoura, northern Egypt, in 1953, Mohamed Abla moved to Alexandria in 1973 to study art at the Faculty of Fine Arts. After graduation, he moved to Cairo to complete military service and held his first solo exhibition at the Spanish Cultural Center. In 1978, he embarked on a seven-year journey to Europe, visiting museums in Spain, France, Belgium, and Germany, and exhibiting at the Hohmann Gallery in northern Germany. He moved to Vienna to study graphics, then to Zurich to study graphics and sculpture. After his son’s birth, he returned to Egypt. He won the first prize at the Kuwait Biennale (1994) and the Grand Prix at the Alexandria Biennale (1997). In 2007, he founded the Fayoum Art Centre, and in 2009, established the first caricature museum in the Middle East.
