Born in Cairo in 1966, Adel Tharwat is head of the painting and drawing department at the Faculty of Art education, Helwan University. He has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions since 1990, including the 6th Egyptian International Biennial and the Alexandria International Biennial (2007), and has been awarded many prizes at the salon of youth. Egyptian heritage is the theoretical, philosophical, and artistic source for his art projects. The beliefs, tales, legends, symbols, and popular motifs produced by Egyptian popular consciousness—in addition to rituals and performances related to popular celebrations such as Almoulid , Alzar , weddings, and festivals—all represent a basic source of expression in adel’s art project.
