Yousef Ahmad, born in Doha in 1955, is a pioneer of modern art in Qatar. He earned a bachelor’s degree in arts and education from Helwan University (1975) and a master’s in fine arts from mills college, California (1982). Ahmad served as head of the department of fine arts at the ministry of information and taught at Qatar University for over 20 years. He is an adviser to Mathaf and Qatar Foundation, contributing to the development of Mathaf’s collection. His international exhibitions include Al Markhiya gallery (2022), Msheireb Museum (2021), and arts Chiyoda Centre, Tokyo (2022). His works are held in major institutions including the British Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He has received numerous awards, including the appreciation award from his highness the amir of Qatar.
