Born in 1961 in Algiers, Algeria, Abderrahmane Ould Mohand, known as Mohand, has developed a pictorial language that engages with memory, traces, and identity. At the intersection of abstraction, symbolism, and implicit figuration, his works function as critical sites of visual inquiry, shaped by history, materiality, and contemplative silence. He is a key figure among Algerian artists who have redefined painting as a means of introspection and resistance. Mohand’s personal iconography, featuring fragmented silhouettes, birds, and vibrant lines, creates a compelling visual language that balances between sign and erasure. Rooted in his experiences of exile, his work conveys a profound persistence of being, without overt emotion or narrative. His paintings have been showcased at esteemed institutions, including the Picasso Museum in Antibes, the Fine Arts Museum in Algiers, and the Arab World Institute, Paris.
