Arezki Zerarti, born on July 24, 1938, in Beni-Antar (Touarga), passed away in 2024. He was an Algerian painter whose artistic journey began in France, where he worked as a mason while taking drawing courses from 1958. His first solo exhibition took place in 1964 at Gallery 54 in Algiers. Winner of the Grand Prize of the City of Algiers and the 10th Anniversary of Independence Prize (1972), he became involved in militant artwork, including Cuba-Washington (1964) and works related to the Algerian Revolution. An active member of UNAP, he participated in numerous exhibitions and was a founding member of the Aouchem group. Between 1980 and 1999, he withdrew from the art scene before returning in 1999. In 2003, he received the first prize from the Asselah Foundation, which was praised by the Ministry of Culture.
