About

Born in 1956 in Constantine, Algeria, Bachir Hadji is a sculptor of memory, rooted in the brassware tradition of his native city, Constantine. His work transcends ornamental design, embodying collective memory. He utilizes bronze, wood, and brass to develop a visual language through circular engravings and animal motifs, particularly the donkey, which symbolizes humility and resilience. Hadji’s exhibitions span from New York to Istanbul and from Laongo to Aswan, solidifying his position on the international stage. He has earned the Medal of Honor from the Burkinabé government, recognizing his artistic contributions. Representing Algeria in numerous festivals and biennials, he has also dedicated over twenty years to teaching sculpture in Lyon, instilling an ethics of gesture where each trace becomes an act of thought.
