About

Bilal Bahir is a contemporary artist whose work explores themes of memory, identity, and cultural heritage. His multidisciplinary practice spans drawing, mixed media, and installation, reflecting on displacement, war, and the fragility of historical memory. Bahir works with carefully sourced materials and antique paper, embedding his compositions with layered symbolic meaning. Deeply rooted in his Mesopotamian heritage, his practice questions the impact of time, migration, and political upheaval on Arab identity and collective narratives. His works have been exhibited internationally and are held in major collections, including the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Bank of Belgium, Investec Cape Town, and the Abu Dhabi Art Fair. He has received several awards, including the Élisabeth Burdot Prize, the Rouge-Cloître Discovery Prize, and the Bienna Prize of the Lambert Lecrenier Foundation.
