About
Founded in 1963 by Kekoo and Khorshed Gandhy, Chemould has been a cornerstone of India’s art scene, championing experimental and interdisciplinary practices. It launched the careers of major artists such as S.H. Raza, Tyeb Mehta, and Atul Dodiya, and collaborated with institutions like the National Gallery of Modern Art and the Mori Art Museum for key retrospectives. Under Shireen Gandhy’s leadership, the gallery promotes socio-political, ecological, and feminist perspectives, with 17 women artists in its roster. Relocated in 2007 to Mumbai’s Fort district, Chemould has placed works in renowned collections including MoMA, Tate Modern, and The Met. Its 2022 expansion continues to strengthen its role as a vital hub for contemporary art in India and internationally.
