About

Born and raised in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, Hego is a pseudonym derived from the first two letters of his first and last name (Heinz Goffert). For many years, he studied English, sociology, and philosophy, but felt a “creative void,” which he filled with his growing passion: drawing, which he resumed in 2003. Hego creates artworks that highlight the energy of color and texture. His works express primal emotions controlled by the mind. In addition to black and white, he prefers warm earth tones (acrylics and pigments) mixed with sand or modeling clay in different layers—painted and smoothed into rough, often antique patterns. He also uses marble dust, clay, threads, copper, zinc, denim rags, and metal flakes. His works have been exhibited in New York, Cape Town, Stockholm, Luxembourg, Malta, New Zealand, Cologne, Hagen, and Witten.
