About

Kelani Fatai (b. Mushin, Lagos) is a Nigerian visual artist whose figurative expression explores Black identity, resilience, and unity. His artistic path began in childhood, shaped by a community artist in Mushin and later refined under the mentorship of Damilola Opedun and Muyiwa Williams at Yaba College of Technology. Working mainly with oil, charcoal, and acrylic, Fatai’s paintings stand as visual manifestos—bold affirmations of collective strength and pride. His work transcends cultural boundaries, fostering dialogue on heritage and the enduring legacy of the Black community. Recognized by collectors and connoisseurs, he was commissioned to create the cover art for The Matriarch by Tina Knowles. Fatai has exhibited internationally, including in Paris, South Africa, and Dakar, and is preparing his third solo show.
