Ikechukwu Nduka, a Nigerian artist trained at the University of Nigeria in Nsukka, inherits El Anatsui’s philosophy that any material can become art. Inspired by his environment and Igbo identity, he transforms mesh belts into colorful tapestries that explore power, wealth, and social dynamics in Southeastern Nigeria. His works draw on the Igbo principles of Ogbuefi, Akuluono, and Igba Bọọi, which symbolize prestige, success, and communal exchange. A finalist in the Life in My City Art Festival (2019, 2021), Nduka was the first artist-in-residence at Ụlọ Nka, founded by Samuel Nnorom, and the inaugural winner of the ArtReport Africa Prize. He lives and works in Nsukka, where he continues to develop a practice rooted in dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity.
