Nyaba Léon Ouédraogo, born in 1978 in Bouyounou, Burkina Faso, is part of a new generation of African photographers who question the realities and living conditions of their contemporaries at the crossroads of Africa and the world. In his series Visible de l’Invisible, Ouédraogo seeks to create a dialogue between the notions of cult and culture, allowing them to nourish one another and generate new imagery. He describes the resulting works as “animist photography.” Through a second-level reading of the mask, his photographs take on a dual destiny, one imbued with the past, transcending the present toward an aesthetic realm tied to the timelessness of cultural narratives.
